So Many Questions

At Drone Flight School, we use the Drone Legends curriculum because it provides an engaging, hands-on approach to STEM education that empowers students to become confident drone pilots and problem-solvers. Designed for all ages, this curriculum blends real-world drone applications with interactive challenges that teach essential concepts in engineering, physics, and coding. By using Drone Legends, we ensure our students develop critical thinking, teamwork, and technical skills in a structured yet exciting environment. This foundation not only prepares them for advanced drone operations but also sparks a lifelong passion for technology, aviation, and innovation.

Ready-to-run out of the box, the FPV Initiator program immerses students in first-person view (FPV) drone piloting, equipping them with real-world precision flight skills, spatial awareness, and situational control. Through structured training and guided practice, students master essential techniques such as manual flight control, racecourse navigation, and obstacle avoidance. Beyond skill development, FPV Initiator serves as a gateway to competitive drone racing, connecting students with the Unified Scholastic Drone Racing Association (USDRA), the leading organization for student drone racing.

With FPV Initiator, students progress from fundamental FPV operations to high-speed competition, participating in both real-world and virtual races hosted by the USDRA. The program fosters STEM engagement, teamwork, and a competitive spirit while opening doors to future opportunities in drone technology, aeronautics, and robotics. Whether aiming to become elite drone racers or future UAV professionals, students gain a strong foundation in FPV flight and an entry point into the exciting world of drone sports and innovation.

On The Drone Legends’ very first mission, a nearly catastrophic accident changes everything — and brings them face-to-face with a mysterious, talking AI drone that seems to know more about them than it should. But was the accident really just bad luck, or is someone pulling the strings? And who created this drone, whose technology is decades ahead of anything the world has ever seen?

As the team begins to dig for answers, Mikaela makes a startling discovery: the old house her parents just bought hides a secret — a cryptic message from the past, concealed in riddles, codes, and strange mechanical puzzles that only a skilled pilot could solve. Together with her new friends, Mikaela sets out to unlock the truth, a quest that will test their courage, ingenuity, and trust in one another.

Their search takes them from wild adventures on storm-tossed seas to labyrinthine tunnels deep underground, where they uncover a plot that could change the course of technology — and humanity — forever. With danger closing in and shadowy forces trying to stop them at every turn, the Drone Legends must race to solve the final mystery before it’s too late.

In this comprehensive class, students dive into the fundamentals of becoming a certified drone pilot through engaging, real-world content that mirrors FAA expectations. They start with an overview of the certification process and move into key topics like drone laws, airspace rules, and safe operating practices. Students gain hands-on skills in reading FAA sectional charts and navigating complex airspace classifications. They also explore how to fly safely near airports, interpret weather data like METARs and TAFs, and handle night operations and in-flight emergencies. It's a rigorous, safety-first course designed to prepare future pilots for confident, compliant drone missions.

The Drone Girl

As drones have moved from fringe hobbyist gear to mainstream technology, they’ve taken off in schools, too. What once was an extracurricular curiosity is now a core part of STEM education in classrooms across the U.S. And into this space steps Drone Legends, a full-service platform promising to bring aerial robotics to students from kindergarten through 12th grade.

Drone Legends offers a range of kits and curricula designed to teach everything from basic science concepts to real-time first-person view (FPV) drone racing. It’s ambitious. It’s relatively polished. Yet — for many schools — it’s expensive. I spent hours digging through the curriculum materials, examining the hardware partnerships, comparing competitors and evaluating whether Drone Legends is worth the price tag.

My take: it’s one of the most comprehensive options available, especially for schools that want to go beyond one-off drone demos and build a long-term, standards-aligned program. But it’s not the cheapest, and it’s not for every classroom.
